The Harry Potter series finally received a new story in the form of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a play that opened in London last year. The Cursed Child picks up the boy wizard’s story decades after the events of the last novel in author J.K. Rowling’s bestselling series, 2007’s The Deathly Hallows, so naturally some fans have begun wondering whether the new it will be adapted into a movie.
Specifically, there have been rumors circulating that there are plans to turn The Cursed Child into a trilogy, but according to Rowling, these rumors are patently FALSE.
“I know a lot of people are looking for reasons to be cheerful today, but there is NO TRUTH to the rumour about a #CursedChild movie trilogy,” Rowling wrote on Twitter Friday.

While fans will no doubt be disappointed by Rowling’s statement, the fact that the author is hard at work on new projects at least offers some reason to celebrate. One of her new books will be written under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith (presumably a continuation of the Cormoran Strike series), while her other upcoming book will be written under her own name. As for what the latter will be, Rowling has hinted that it is related to Dutch Golden Age painter Harmen Sttenwyck’s Still Life: An Allegory of the Vanities of Human Life. Neither book has a planned release date so far.
It’s also important to remember that a sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be out in 2018, so it’s not like the silver screen is starved for Harry Potter-related filmmaking.
