Shortly after the Sonic the Hedgehog trailer was released earlier today, a hilariously ridiculous thread started on Twitter that suggested the upcoming video game movie is actually a sequel to the 2011 animated comedy Hop, which features James Marsden teaming up with the Easter Bunny, voiced by Russell Brand. Sound familiar?
Now, even though we love the idea of Sonic being a Hop sequel and existing in the same universe, it’s worth noting that in Hop Marsden plays Fred O’Hare, whereas in Sonic, he plays Tom Wachowski. So, unless O’Hare changed his name to Wachowski after his run-in with the Easter Bunny (which would be hilarious), there’s little to no truth to this theory.
Having said that, regardless of whether Sonic the Hedgehog is Hop sequel or not, it doesn’t make the sequel theories any less amusing. Here are a few of our favorites:

Will the movie where James Marsden meets Sonic the Hedgehog be better or worse than the movie where James Marsden meets the Easter bunny? pic.twitter.com/AVS30BxKmx

I can’t believe James Marsden is going to have both Hop and Sonic the Hedgehog on his CV.
Hop is the movie where he has to team up with the Easter Bunny, who’s voiced by Russel Brand.

The Sonic Movie is just a sequel to Hop or at the very least takes place in the same universe. You can’t convince me otherwise! pic.twitter.com/MRf8WggD3y

Do you think the two movies are connected? Could Fred O’Hare have changed his name to Wachowski after his run-in with the Easter Bunny? Let us know in the comments below.
Sonic the Hedgehog arrives in theatres on November 8, 2019.
