Ever since Marvel’s Daredevil was canceled back in November 2018, there have been rumors of Charlie Cox respiring his role as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but nothing official… until today. Kevin Smith recently let it slip that Marvel may or may not be planning on Charlie playing Daredevil in the Marvel third Spider-Man movie.

While speaking on the most recent episode of his Fatman Beyond podcast, co-hosted with Marc Bernardin, Smith revealed that he’d heard rumors of Marvel Studios wanting the former Netflix actor to reprise his role as Daredevil in Spider-Man 3.

I heard another piece of good f-ckin’ news. Did You hear that Spider-Man, the new Spider-Man movie, gonna have a lawyer in it? … Charlie Cox, they’re bringing in as Matt Murdock. That’s been the rumor online and they say that’s like the one that like Marvel’s like god damn it how did that get out?

Check out the entire podcast below:

We recently learned Spider-Man 3, which is scheduled to be released on July 16, 2021, will start filming this summer (barring any delays), and as of publication, we can confirm both Tom Holland and Zendaya will return.

If Marvel is planning on Daredevil joining the third Spider-Man film, it raises the question as to what storyline Kevin Feige and his team have planned. A few days ago, we discussed the probability of the third Spider-Man film setting up upcoming and unconfirmed Sinister Six movie. Now that we know Marvel has plans to introducing Matt Murdock, it leads us to believe either Kraven the Hunter or Doctor Octopus will also be the primary antagonist of Spider-Man 3 and Daredevil will play a foe-turned-friend type of role with Spidey.

What are your thoughts on Smith’s comments? If the rumor is true, is Charlie Cox the right man for the job, or can you think of someone else that would be better suited for the role? Let us know in the comments below.
