With the upcoming release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Neil deGrasse Tyson, renowned astrophysicist and the king of explaining the science in pop culture, has tackled the question we’ve all been wondering: could Batman beat Superman? He thinks yes. But only under certain circumstances.

Given that Batman is human and Superman is, well, Superman, Tyson thinks that in a one-on-one fight Superman would easily reign supreme. However, where Batman could have the upper hand, he suggests, is in the court of public opinion. Given that Superman has garnered a lot of distrust from the masses, Batman needs to capitalize on these negative opinions as weapons to overcome the Man of Steel, who is otherwise physically superior.

While the battle between Batman and Superman may not seem especially fair, Tyson recommends that a more appropriate showdown would be between Batman and Iron Man, given that both of them are innovative minds with an infinite stockpile of cash to engineer their man-made weapons. That’s certainly a battle we’d pay to see!
