Harley Quinn makes her big screen debut this week in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad — played by The Wolf of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie — and by most accounts, Robbie’s performance is one of the film’s few bright spots. But what does Harley Quinn’s creator make of Robbie’s portrayal?
Paul Dini, who co-created Harley Quinn alongside Bruce Timm for Batman: The Animated Series nearly 25 years ago, shared his opinion on Robbie’s take on the character with ComicBook.com:
“Every clip that I’ve seen of Margot as Harley, she seems to have nailed it perfectly. When she’s introducing herself to Katana, when she’s walking around with the bat behind her shoulders, she just seems to have really channeled the true spirit of the character. Seeing that come alive is just amazing for me. I saw the shot yesterday of her and Joker in the therapy session getting ready to kiss, and I was just like, ‘That’s it, that’s my girl.’”
Evidently, Dini is quite pleased with how Harley’s big screen adaptation worked out, as he also tweeted out this photo of the Harley billboard in Times Square:
