Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 flies into theaters next year and it will come jam-packed with a ton of familiar faces. All the Guardians themselves will be present and accounted for, and they will be joined by returning supporting players like Nebula and Yondu. However, one character that was thought to be out of the picture was Benicio del Toro’s Taneleer Tivan, a.k.a. The Collector.
The actor had previously expressed interest in reprising the role, but there were reports that The Collector wouldn’t be part of the sequel’s plot at all, so it was assumed that we may have to wait to see del Toro return at a different time. Now, new photos have surfaced that suggest that del Toro may have a cameo in the film after all.
The Daily Mail has gotten a hold of photos that show Benicio del Toro wearing a white wig on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set in Los Angeles. While the actor wasn’t decked out in his Collector costume, the white wig looks exactly like the one he wore in the first movie, leading to speculation that he will be making a cameo appearance.
Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed, but it’s hard to imagine that del Toro showed up on set wearing a white wig for any other purpose. As for what role he’ll play in the film, that’s really anyone’s guess at this point. As one of the oldest beings in the Marvel universe, there is ample opportunity to expand on the character. When we last saw The Collector, he was sulking about with Howard the Duck after the Power Stone destroyed his base of operations. Hopefully things pick up from this point, as it would be great to see more of Howard the Duck too.
We’ll find out what’s going on with The Collector (again, assuming he is in fact in the film) when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
