When it revealed that Donald Glover would be playing a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff about a young Hans Solo, internet nerds around the world collectively nodded their heads silently and thought to themselves, “Yep, that will do nicely.”
As with anything Star Wars, expectations are high. The original trilogy is held in such high regard by sci-fi fans, that every new piece of Star Wars canon is heavily scrutinized. The 90s prequels were deemed an abomination. Luckily, 2016’s The Force Awakens redeemed the franchise (and made billions for Disney, the new owner of the Star Wars rights). Now Glover will be stepping into a famous role and fans are hoping he doesn’t screw it up. One fan in particular, actually.
Glover recently appeared on Ellen to talk about landing the huge role, and said that his own mother had a stern warning when he told her the good news.
I told my dad immediately. My mom was in the back, she was like, ‘Don’t mess it up.’ She was like, ‘Don’t mess this up!’ Cause Billy Dee is like—that’s hers.
