‘Fast And Furious’ Star Says Franchise Must ‘Evolve Or Die’

Michelle Rodriguez has doubled down on her Fast and Furious criticisms from earlier this year, stating that the blockbuster franchise needs to “evolve or die” when it comes to its handling of female characters.

Speaking to TMZ (via IGN), Rodriguez took the franchise to task for its lack of meaningful roles for women: “My path is about female empowerment, and if I’m feeling a little stagnant in that area in what I’m doing for a living, then I’m gonna have to move on,” said Rodriguez.

Specifically, Rodriguez is unhappy with the lack of interaction between the franchise’s female characters and that despite the recent inclusion of Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren in The Fate of the Furious, there’s still much work to be done.

“I can count with one hand the times I’ve talked to the female actresses in the franchise, and I think that’s kinda sad.”

At least two more Fast and Furious films are in the works, with the ninth installment set for release on April 19, 2019. Presumably, Rodriguez will be returning for both, despite her criticisms.
