One of the surprise hits from last year was Edge of Tomorrow. Based on a graphic novel and starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, the slick sci-fi/time bending action flick was adored by both film critics and the highly skeptical nerd audience (and we mean that in a good way).
With Cruise’s new movie opening this week, the latest installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, he has been on a whirlwind promotional tour. While talking to MTV, he let it slip that a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow may be on the way.
He says he already pitched the idea to original director Doug Liman and original writer Christopher McQuarrie.
“I pitched it to McQuarrie and Doug,” Cruise said of the theoretical follow-up. “We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it.”
When asked whether his co-star Emily Blunt would return for another trip into the Edge of Tomorrow universe, Cruise would only suggest that she didn’t say yes, but didn’t no either.
If you haven’t seen the first one, we highly recommend it. It’s a sci-fi action flick about a soldier who gains the ability to re-live his life from the same moment every time he dies. Using trial and error, he eliminates his fatal mistakes day after day until he reaches the end game of the war.
