Deadpool 2: Josh Brolin Has Been Cast As Cable

After months of searching, the role of Cable in Deadpool 2 has been cast, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that Josh Brolin has been chosen for the role.

Brolin’s casting comes as a near-total surprise, as the actor’s name did not come up once in any rumors or reports surrounding the hotly contested role (we didn’t even highlight him in our list of potential casting choices). As far as anyone knew, Michael Shannon was still the frontrunner for the role, with Stranger Things star David Harbour’s name also coming up.

Brolin’s casting is also interesting when one takes into account that this is the second Marvel character he is currently playing, as the actor plays the villain Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Deadpool series is not connected to those films, but it’s still odd to see the same actor playing two prominent Marvel characters at the same time.

Deadpool 2 has no official release date, but Brolin will be returning to play Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
