Speculation over who will play the next James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves the role behind seems to get more intense as SPECTRE‘s November 6th release draws nearer and now Craig himself has thrown fuel on that fire.

Speaking with Timeout recently, the question of whether Craig could imagine making another Bond movie came up and the actor’s response made it clear that his future as Bond is anything but guaranteed: “Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

Craig was then asked if that meant he was done with the role for good and his response leaves open the possibility, but it’s definitely clear that nothing is set in stone yet. “I haven’t given it any thought. For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it,” said Craig. “I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the f*** knows? At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything.”

“If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”

Of course, Craig is currently in the midst of a long, exhausting press tour (and we’ve all seen how badly some actors handle those) so these comments should be taken with a grain of salt. Still, it’ll be interesting to see if things change once SPECTRE is release and Craig is able to take some time off to consider things. Hopefully SPECTRE lives up to expectation so that if it is Craig’s last appearance, he goes out on a high note.
