Well, here’s something you don’t see every day.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Australian actor Damon Herriman had been cast in the role of infamous murderer Charles Manson in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. However, thanks to a report that originally ran on Collider, it’s been discovered that Herriman has also been cast by filmmaker David Fincher for the exact same role in the second season of Netflix’s Mindhunter series. Details on the new season have been kept largely secret up until now, which helps explain why the casting of Herriman wasn’t public knowledge before now.
Interestingly, Herriman will be playing Manson at two different points in the killer’s life. Tarantino’s film is set in 1969, which would put Manson in his mid-30s. Meanwhile, Manson’s scenes in Mindhunter will take place in the 1980s. This means we’ll get to see Herriman play the character differently in both projects, though I’m guessing his approach will be quite similar. He must be a pretty convincing Charles Manson for two different directors to have offered him the same character!
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is for release on July 26, 2019. Presumably, we’ll get to see Herriman in Mindhunter first, but the second season does not yet have a release date.
