Could Jon Favreau Replace Kathleen Kennedy As Lucasfilm President In 2022? We Think So

With only one year left on her contact, rumors of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy’s exit are beginning to pick up steam, and it would appear Jon Favreau is being eyed to take over, if and when the time comes. Now, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given the positive response The Mandalorian has received since making its debut. Couple that with Favreau’s genuine love of all things Star Wars, we can’t think of a better person to right the ship.

Earlier this year Kevin Feige was promoted to chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment (including TV), following the critical and commercial success of Avengers: Endgame and more importantly, Phase 3 as a whole. With this in mind and given the negatively the Star Wars sequel series has received, especially The Last Jedi, having Favreau take over isn’t the worst idea. Whether you’re a fan of The Mandalorian or not, his ability to capture the essence of what made the original trilogy so beloved is undeniable and for that reason, among many others, he has our vote of confidence.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there’s a growing belief among those closely associated with Lucasfilm, that the future of the Star Wars universe could very well fall into the hands of Favreau and that the director will have “a lot to say” if the move happens. We’d also like to point out that Kennedy has yet to comment on her plans following 2021, so much like THR, we too believe its only a matter of time before Favreau is named Lucasfilm’s new Chief Creative Officer.

What are your thoughts on Favreau taking over control following Kennedy’s rumored exit? Do you think Disney is jumping the gun and that someone else should take over? Let us know in the comments below.
