10 Cloverfield Lane seemingly came out of nowhere in 2016 to be a surprise sequel of sorts to the original Cloverfield film. Although it contained a story and characters completely unrelated to the original, it was confirmed to be a part of the same shared fictional universe (as if the name itself wasn’t a dead giveaway).
The upcoming movie God Particle, produced by J.J. Abrams, has recently been revealed to also be a part of the ever-expanding Cloverfield Universe. While not much is known about the new film yet, The Wrap is reporting that it will take place in space.
Fans of “Cloverfield” and its cinematic cousin “10 Cloverfield Lane,” which starred John Goodman and was released in March, speculated the “God Particle” was indeed connected to the same universe when the project was announced in February.
“Particle” is about a team of astronauts who make a “shocking discovery” and end up fighting for survival in what is described as an altered reality.
The Wrap is also reporting that Abrams and studio partner Paramount Pictures are hoping to develop even more movies in the shared Cloverfield universe, possibly as frequently as a one per year. In the meantime, we will have to wait and see what God Particle adds to the Cloverfield Universe. It’s scheduled to hit theaters in February 2017.
