Chris Evans May Not Be Done With Captain America After All

Recently, there’s been a lot of talk about Chris Evans’ potential exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A recent profile in Esquire insinuates that the actor is ready to quit playing Captain America — a role he’s held since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger — after wrapping up work on the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. With that film in the can, Evans will have fulfilled his contractual obligations with Marvel and would be free to walk. The actor has also made it clear that he would like to start directing more films and not having a burdensome contract would certainly help open up space in Evans’ schedule to accomplish this goal.

However, it looks like Chris Evans may not be quite ready to hang up Cap’s shield yet.

Speaking to Collider, Evans revealed that he would be open to staying on as an Avenger, but that the ball is now in Marvel’s court, so to speak:

After Avengers 4, my contract is done. Talk to Marvel. If we engage further, I’d be open to it. I love the character. It’s almost like high school. You certainly always look to senior year, and then, all of a sudden, senior year happens and you’re like, “I don’t know if I’m ready to go.” It’s tough thinking about not playing the guy.

Considering how popular Chris Evans’ performance is with fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how financially successful the Captain America movies have been for the Marvel Studios, it’s hard to imagine them not wanting to retain the actor for at least a couple more movies if he’s open to the idea. At any rate, even if Evans does make his exit following Infinity War, he’ll always be a real-life superhero to us.
