Amid the immense critical backlash against Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice over the last week or so, it’s been easy to forget that Ben Affleck proved himself to be a pretty good Batman. The Sad Affleck meme may have convinced some of us that the actor was having some regrets over his involvement with Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ new gargantuan film franchise, but it’s hard to imagine that he’s too bummed out considering he’s already reportedly written a script for his very own Batman movie.
William Morris Endeavor’s co-CEOs Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitsell, in a cover story with The Hollywood Reporter, have revealed that Affleck has not only been working on a script for a new standalone Batman movie, but that he’s already completed it. “He’s contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape,” says Whitesell. “There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.”
Reports from last year indicated that Affleck would be writing, directing, and starring in a standalone Batman movie at some point in the future, but this is the first confirmation that Affleck has actively started working on it. We may not have enjoyed Batman v Superman overall, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t looking forward to seeing a Batman film directed by Affleck. With so many DC movies already in the works, hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for it to see the light of day … err, night.
