Bad Boys III, or Bad Boys for Life, has been in development limbo for years at this point and has suffered a number of setbacks as of late. Joe Carnahan stepped down as director back in March and just a few weeks ago, Sony pulled the film from its release slate (it was originally set for November 2018). Now, one of the series’ stars is claiming that it’s probably never going to happen.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Martin Lawrence had this to say on the matter of Bad Boys III:
“I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out. Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
(In case you were wondering, the conflicting project that Lawrence is speaking of is Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake, in which Will Smith has been cast as the Genie.)
So is this the end of the line for Detectives Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett or will Michael Bay swoop into save the project and convince Will to start granting the only wish that matters: another incoherent action movie bro-down with his buddy Martin? We’ll just have to wait and see.
