Baby Yoda Joins Disney CEO Bob Iger In TIMES’ People of the Year Issue

Baby Yoda wasn’t named TIMES’ Person of the Year… but that didn’t stop the little green guy from making the magazine!

Earlier today, TIME magazine named sixteen-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg, the Person of the Year. While she undoubtedly deserves it and we’re happy for her, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t a tad disappointed everyone’s favorite tea-sipping infant wouldn’t be gracing the cover of TIME magazine this year.

Despite losing out to Thunberg, Baby Yoda still managed to make the issue thanks to Disney CEO Bob Iger, who was named Businessperson of the Year in large part due to the widely successful launch of Disney Plus back in November and a record-breaking $10 billion in global box office sales (and counting) in 2019.

The beautifully illustrated photo of Iger holding the little green tyke was done by the talented Tim O’Brien, a well-known artist whose illustrations have been featured on the covers and interior pages of everyone from Rolling Stone to National Geographic. When asked about his newest painting, O’Brien said getting the opportunity to paint Baby Yoda, at the height of the infant’s popularity, was “thrilling.”

“Painting Bob Iger was fun, but of course, like almost the entire universe, being able to paint baby Yoda at a time when he’s blowing up the Internet was thrilling,”

Does it surprise you Iger was named Businessperson of the Year or did the year Disney had speak for itself? Let us know in the comments below.
