The upcoming two-part Avengers: Infinity War is undoubtedly Marvel’s most ambitious and gigantic film project to date and that sentiment is echoed by co-director Anthony Russo, who claims that Infinity War will unite Marvel’s various characters and properties like never before.
“The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept,” Russo told ComicBook.com.
Does this mean that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be joining the Avengers to take on Thanos? Russo wouldn’t confirm, but he did make assurances that “fans will not disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie.”
Just how many characters are we talking? Russo claims that Infinity War will feature more than any other film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date: “We have so many characters we’re dealing with. We’re breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it.”
Russo also said that he and his brother Joe are planning to explore the cosmic side of Marvel in a big way and are focusing on incorporating elements of “psychological realism” (sounds like those Infinity Stones will play a big part!) .
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is set to open in theaters May 4, 2018, with the second installment dropping May 3, 2019.
