Xbox head Phil Spencer recently shared his thoughts on the Nintendo Switch, while also delving into why Microsoft hasn’t released a portable Xbox.
Appearing on the latest episode of IGN’s Xbox show Unlocked, Spencer revealed that he had the opportunity to play the Switch early and walked away from the experience impressed, noting that he “love[s] the hardware design,” and believes that “anytime Nintendo brings a new product to the gaming market it’s good for all of us.”
“Our relationship with Nintendo is great,” Spencer admitted. “They’ve done some really innovative work.”
When asked why Microsoft has never put out a portable Xbox, Spencer said he’s “always watching to see what happens,” but that that Microsoft as a whole is wary of getting into the portable space because the company has “looked at phones as dominating that market.”
“I don’t know that we would do a bespoke mobile device yet, but I’m gonna watch. Absolutely, I’m gonna watch and learn. People want to play their games wherever they are,” he added.
The Nintendo Switch is available in stores now, although you may have trouble finding one if you didn’t place a pre-order.
