Titanfall, the 2014 sci-fi shooter made by a team comprised of ex-Call of Duty developers, is getting a sequel “late this year or early next,” according to lead writer Jesse Stern, which will fix one of the original game’s biggest issues.

Titanfall was a multiplayer-only affair and developer Respawn Entertainment will address a major complaint leveled against that game by adding a single player campaign to the sequel. Stern told Forbes that Titanfall 2 will be set in a world both scientific and magical, but one that is still “grounded, dirty, human, and real.”

To date, Titanfall has sold over 10 million copies, which has allowed Respawn to branch off with the franchise and work on other multimedia ventures, with a spin-off TV series currently being worked on in partnership with Lionsgate TV. Unfortunately, cost is still a significant barrier to getting the series off the ground.
“It would be very expensive,” Stern told Forbes. “We are trying to find a way to tell a story in the worlds we want to be in and produce in the TV model.”
Unlike the first game, Titanfall 2 will not be a Xbox exclusive and will launch on all major platforms — PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. Respawn has also teamed up with Nexon to bring a mobile spinoff game to iOS and Android, due to release sometime this year.
