After more than a decade of PlayStation owners asking Sony to allow them to change their PlayStation Network names, Sony has officially announced that they will be rolling out a test for the PSN Online ID Change feature beta, which will allow users around the world to change their IDs.
Announced on the PlayStation Blog, the PSN Online ID Change feature beta will initially be exclusive to the PlayStation Preview Program and “will become available to select users that have pre-registered as testers for previous PS4 system software betas.”
If those users accept, they will be able to change their online ID as many times as they like, with the first change being free. After that, any additional change will cost $9.99 USD/CAD, or $4.99 USD/CAD for PlayStation Plus members.
One neat additional feature is that users will have the option to display their previous ID alongside their new one to help friends recognize them. However, once decided, you won’t be able to switch between showing/not showing your old ID.
The beta is “scheduled to conclude at the end of November 2019” and if everything goes well, all PS4 owners will be able to change their names in early 2019.
