Sony appears to be borrowing a page from Microsoft’s recent console release strategy, as new leaked photos suggest that the company is developing a slimmer version of its popular PlayStation 4 console.
Microsoft launched the Xbox One S earlier this month—a smaller, thinner version of the original oversized Xbox One that is also capable of displaying 4K resolutions. With Sony holding a special PlayStation event in New York on September 7th—where many are speculating the company will formally unveil the much-rumored, more powerful PS4 Neo—it seems that a PS4 Slim announcement could also be in the cards.
A source has confirmed to Eurogamer that the PS4 Slim is real, stating “Sony will hold an event on 7th September in New York…Eurogamer understands the PS4 Slim will be released shortly after this event, later in September. We don’t know how much it will cost, however, but the expectation is it will be cheaper than the original PS4.”
Sony has not returned any requests for comment on the PS4 Slim rumors at this time.
