We have to hand it to Psyonix, developers of last year’s surprise hit game Rocket League. They keep adding new and interesting game content, often for free, rather than nickle and diming their fans for every single addition.
While they do offer paid DLC for new battle cars (which are cosmetic only, and offer no competitive advantage to those who buy them), they have added a hockey-themed mode (Snow Day) and a basketball mode (Hoops). At the Rocket League Championship Series this weekend, they announced the next major update for the game, which will drop in September.
Introducing Rumble Mode! Throwing the competitive balance right out the door, Rumble adds eleven new powerups that will turn the already action-packed gameplay into pure chaos. Consider it an injection of Mario Kart into soccer with cars.
Here’s a list of the new power-ups, courtesy of Kotaku.
-The Boot (Kick’s an opponent’s car)
-Disruptor (Forces the opponent to drive uncontrollably)
-Freezer (Freezes the ball in-place)
-Grappling Hook (Pulls you towards the ball)
-Haymaker (Punches the ball)
-Magnetizer (Attracts the ball to your car)
-Plunger (Grabs the ball via plunger and cord)
-Power Hitter (Hit everything harder)
-Spike (Attach the ball to your car when you bump into it)
-Swapper (Change positions on the field with your opponent)
-Tornado (Sweep up the ball and cars into a giant funnel cloud)
