After Sony decided not to reveal their in-development upgraded PlayStation 4 model at E3 back in June, many have wondered when the company would make an official announcement regarding the new console, currently codenamed ‘Neo.’
According to new report from Patrick Klepek over at Vice Gaming [via Gameblog], multiple sources have revealed that Sony will reveal the console’s first details at a September 7 event in New York. According to one source, who chose to remain anonymous, this event will take the form of a “technical showcase,” which indicates that official hardware specs will be shown off. Another source mentions that finalized development kits will be sent out to developers around this time as well.
Rumors that Sony was working on an upgraded PS4 first broke back in March (fittingly, that story was also broken by Klepek), with Sony confirming the console’s existence just prior to E3 this year in an interview with the Financial Times. The company did not comment on what technical upgrades the system will have over the current PS4 model, but did mention that the Neo is “intended to sit alongside and compliment the standard PS4.”
