Nintendo is planning to release an upgraded version of the Switch to help maintain the console’s sales momentum, according to a new report from Wall Street Journal Japan.
Citing suppliers and “others with direct knowledge of the plan” as sources, the unofficial report claims that there have been active discussions about new hardware and software functions, as well as the cost to implement both. One notable rumored upgrade is replacing the current system’s “low-end” LCD display — though the report notes that Nintendo isn’t expected to adopt the OLED panels used in Apple’s iPhone X series — while the sources also indicate that Nintendo is looking to release the new Switch in the second half of 2019, even as early as summer.
The Nintendo Switch first launched in March 2017 and has sold close to 20 million units worldwide. If we’re talking hardware updates, let’s get an AC adapter port on the top of the Switch this time, OK Nintendo?
