As expected, Pokemon Go announced a special Halloween themed event ahead of the annual spooky holiday. Much like last year, the event will feature an increase in spawns of ghost and dark type pokemon. The highlight though, for those people still playing the game almost a year and a half after its initial explosive release, is that Niantic will finally introduce some (but not all) of the third generation of pokemon.

From their official blog:

Gastly, Drowzee, Cubone, and other spooky Pokémon are back again this Halloween, and this time, they’re bringing some special friends! Sableye, Banette, and a few other Ghost-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region will be making their first-ever appearance in Pokémon GO. The rest of the Pokémon first seen in the Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire video games will gradually arrive starting as early as December!

Other highlights of the event include a special witch hat Pikachu, a new avatar costume, and double candy for catching, hatching, or transferring pokemon. Your buddy pokemon will also find candy at twice the normal rate. There are also special boxes for sale in the in-game store, if you like to spend real money on the game (or just stockpile the free pokecoins you get from defending gyms).

The event begins October 20 at noon Pacific time and runs until November 2 at 1:00 pm.
