‘Pokemon Go’ Announces Next Event, Makes Major Changes to Pokemon Strength

If you open up your Pokemon Go app this afternoon, you may be in for a shock. Niantic announced major changes to the balance system on Monday, causing the Combat Power (CP) of many Pokemon to rise or fall dramatically.

Perhaps responding to the complaints from players about a stagnant gym system, where it seemed like every gym was packed with Dragonites, Snorlaxes, and Victrebells, a whole host of adjustments were made. Here’s an ongoing list of what we know so far:

Pokemon with CP going up:

Alakazam, Aerodactyl, Beedrill, Butterfree, Chansey, Charizard, Cloyster, Electabuzz, Electrode, Flareon, Hitmonlee, Gengar, Golem, Gydrados, Jolteon, Jynx, Kingler, Machamp, Magneton, Mr. Mime, Muk, Omastar, Onix, Pinsir, Pidgeot, Primeape, Raichu, Rhydon, Sandslash, Scyther, Snorlax, Starmie, Tangela, Tauros, Tentacruel, Vaporeon.

Pokemon with CP going down:

Arcanine, Blastoise, Clefable, Dewgong, Exeggutor, Golduck, Hypno, Lickitung, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Parasect, Poliwrath, Porygon, Seadra, Slowbro, Venusaur, Victreebell,Vileplume, Wigglytuff

In addition to the combat balances, Niantic also announced that starting on November 23, they will be giving out double XP and stardust for every in-game action that already generates it. The promotion will last for one week, ending on November 30. They are calling it a “thank you to the community” type of event, which is probably designed to hold players over until a Christmas/Holidays event is announced.
