Nintendo To Stop Making Wii U In 2016?

According to Nikkei in Japan, Nintendo is currently planning to halt all production of Wii U consoles by the end of this year. The Wii U, which was released in 2012, has only sold 12.6 million units over its short life, a disappointment by any measure, but especially so when compared to the original Wii, which sold over 100 million consoles.

While this does not guarantee that Nintendo is planning to release their next console, which is codenamed NX, this year, it certainly does clear the way for it to at least be announced very shortly.
