Nintendo Boss Say Company Needs To Do Better Regarding NX

Nintendo America head Reggie Fils-Aime was his trademark blunt self when asked about the company’s upcoming console, the NX, of which not much information has yet been revealed. In an interview with [A]list Daily, Fils-Aime said the following:

“One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX—we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product. We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience. And we have to do a better job from a software planning standpoint to have that continuous beat of great new games that are motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware and more and more people to pick up the software. Those are the critical lessons.”

Nintendo, of course, is coming of one of its worst console launches in company history, as the Wii U failed to capitalize on the enormous success of its predecessor, the Wii, due to a combination of poor marketing, lack of information, and an abysmal selection of games, with almost no third-party titles (although it should be noted that several of the games which did release for the platform were considered some of the best of the generation). Overall, the console has sold a reported 13 million units, a far cry from the over 100 million Wii consoles sold the previous generation.

At this point, not much is known about the NX, although current speculation is that it will be a powerful handheld capable of docking with a unit the plugs into a TV. Five games have been confirmed so far, including a heavily-hyped cross-platform Zelda game, and the console is set to be released in early 2017.
