Activision (and by extension Sony) made a bombshell announcement at this year’s E3 when they revealed that former PlayStation mascot Crash Bandicoot would be making an appearance in Skylanders: Imaginators this fall. At Gamescom this week, new details were revealed about what that guest appearance would entail and it turns out that Crash is bringing his old nemesis Dr. Neo Cortex along for the ride.

Activision announced that both Crash and Cortex will get their own toys and also showed off gameplay footage of the two characters in action in the “Thumpin Wumpa Islands” level, which as you can see in the video below [via Kotaku] is very reminiscent of levels from the classic Naughty Dog games on PlayStation One.

Sure, it’s not quite the Crash revival many of us wanted or expected, but we shouldn’t forget that Sony is doing a full-on revival of their own on PlayStation 4 (nothing new to report on that front, unfortunately). The Crash level and toys for Skylanders: Imaginators will be exclusive to PlayStation platforms at launch, but will make their way to other versions of the game at a later date.

Skylanders: Imaginators hits stores October 13.
