Nintendo’s Wii U console may not be a bastion of third party software, but in a “better late than never” move, the company has announced it will be getting its own version of one of the most lucrative and popular games of the last decade.

Minecraft, which has been released for seemingly every game platform known to man at this point, will finally be hitting the Wii U on December 17th. According to Mincraft publisher Mojang’s official website, Mincraft Wii U will cost $29.99 USD on the Nintendo eShop (no word yet on when or if there will be retail release) and comes bundled with six of the game’s most popular add-on packs. As an added relief for Wii U owners, the game will also receive regular updates, including future content packs.
Mojang’s announcement also notes that Mincraft Wii U will support off-TV play with the console’s Gamepad, which is probably the main selling point for the Wii U version considering how many other platforms the game is available on.
