Microsoft Announces Mouse And Keyboard Support For Xbox One

The Xbox One controller is a fine gamepad, but it can’t match the precision of a good mouse and keyboard combo. Fortunately, it won’t be long until the console supports both control options.

During yesterday’s Inside Xbox livestream, Phil Spencer confirmed that mouse and keyboard support is coming to Xbox One, with an initial test coming in October for Warframe on Xbox Preview. Spencer noted that mouse and keyboard support is being added primarily as a tool for developers, who can then choose how they want the control style to be implemented, if they so choose. Spencer also made sure to address concerns that this would create an imbalance in online multiplayer titles.

“If you’re a dominant FPS player right now on controller and you’re worried that all the sudden you’re gonna get swamped because a bunch of mouse and keyboard players are gonna get flooded into your game, that’s not what we’re doing,” said Spencer. “We’re putting choice into the hands of the developers about the games that they want to bring.”

Besides the Xbox Preview test in October, no other details regarding when the feature will be rolled out for a larger audience were given, though more information is expected this November during the XO18 fan event in Mexico City.
