Nintendo has more Zelda content on the way.
The company has announced that Breath of the Wild will receive an “Expansion Pass,” which marks the first time DLC has been added to a main entry in the Legend of Zelda series.
The Expansion Pass will offer two extra content packs that are scheduled for release later in 2017, although the pass will be available for purchase on March 3, the same day the full game releases. It’s priced at $19.99 USD / £17.99. Details for the two packs — which cannot be purchased individually — are as follows:
Pack 1 – Summer 2017
- A new Cave of Trials challenge
- Hard Mode
- “A new feature for the in-game map”
Pack 2 – Holiday 2017
- A new dungeon
- A new “original story”
- Additional Challenges
Purchasing the Expansion Pass will also unlock three extra treasure chests in the game’s Great Plateau location. Two of the chests are said to contain “useful items” while the third will include “a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo which Link can wear during his adventure.” Yes, seriously.
Series producer Eiji Aonuma has also put out a video explaining the Expansion Pass, which he says is meant to offer more content for those who have finished the game.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is out March 3 for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch, the same day as the Switch console launch.
