Sony has finally revealed when PS4 owners will be able to get their hands on God of War.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, director Cory Barlog announced that the release date is April 20, 2018, commenting that it’s his “favorite release day of my career. If I live to be 100, I do no think I will be able to top this release day.”
In addition to the release date announcement, a new story trailer featuring Kratos and his son Atreus has been released, offering looks at new locations and further insight into the game’s story.
“There has been a long journey just to reach this point, so it’s a little bittersweet to think that we are only a few months away from that journey finally coming to an end,” Barlog wrote. “While I am sad, I am also excited because it means everyone will get their hands on this crazy adventure we have been crafting for nearly five years!”
Barlog’s post also revealed that pre-ordering any edition of God of War will earn players three legendary shield skins, while pre-orders at select retailers will receive a Luck of Ages XP boost (+10 Luck and 1 Enchantment slot). A limited edition physical God of War pin will also be available for pre-orders of the Digital Deluxe version.
The new God of War was first revealed by Sony at its E3 2016 press conference and represents a bold new direction for the series, with an increased emphasis on story and switch from Greek to Norse mythology theme.
