Even Kratos is getting in on the highest-grossing opening of all time, as fans have discovered that there is an elaborate Avengers: Infinity War-themed Easter Egg hiding in the new God of War for PlayStation 4.

The secret was discovered on the God of War Reddit in a thread by user Moxxxxxi, who put all the pieces together. During the “Family Business” sidequest given by Sindri the dwarf, players can find a talisman called the “Shattered Gauntlet of Ages.” While the talisman at first doesn’t seem any more special than the dozens of others discovered throughout the game, the description hints at an untapped power that sounds quite reminiscent of a certain other gauntlet:

“An ancient relic of Hel deemed too powerful to remain whole, fragments of its former strength lie scattered throughout the realms,” reads the talisman’s description.

Sounds a bit like the Infinity Gauntlet, no? Developer Sony Santa Monica didn’t just stop there though, as it turns out that there are indeed six enchantments scattered throughout the Norse realms that parallel the six Infinity Stones Thanos seeks to collect in Avengers: Infinity War:

  • Andvari’s Soul – Soul Stone
  • Njord’s Temporal Stone – Time Stone
  • Eye of the Outer Realm – Space Stone
  • Ivaldi’s Corrupted Mind – Mind Stone
  • Asgard’s Shard of Existence – Reality Stone
  • Muspelheim Eye of Power – Power Stone

These “Infinity Enchantments” are difficult to acquire but when three of them are socketed into the fully upgraded gauntlet, players will be able to use the weapon to shoot purple beams out of Kratos’ fist, making him the Thanos of the Nine Realms. The only real downside is that there is no way to socket all six enchantments at the same time, as God of War only allows for a maximum of three on any one item, but that also means that you only have to collect half of the enchantments listed above in order to experience this Easter Egg for yourself!
