It’s been a long wait for a proper numbered sequel, but we’re just a few weeks away from the release of Gears of War 4, the first new entry in the popular third-person shooter franchise to be released on Xbox One (it will also be available on PC).
Set 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3, the new game focuses on a new set of protagonists, including franchise star Marcus Fenix’s son JD, as they face a new threat in the form of The Swarm. The newly released launch trailer is actually surprisingly light on story details, but it does highlight some of the new enemies players will be facing, as well as the oddly beautiful environments they will get to shoot said enemies in. Gears of War 4 is certainly one of the prettiest postapocalyptic games we’ve yet seen.
Here’s the official press release for the trailer:
Narrated by John DiMaggio, the voice of Marcus Fenix, the new trailer features high-intensity action orchestrated by a cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” as performed by Lissie. You can also catch the trailer’s television debut later tonight during Monday Night Football on ESPN (5:30PM PT/8:30PM ET).
With the October 11 launch date just a few short weeks away (or on October 7 with early access for Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition owners) Gears of War 4 encourages players to ‘Never Fight Alone’ by teaming up with a friend through cross-platform co-op gameplay on Xbox One and Windows 10 platforms. As Gears of War 4 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, you’ll be able to play across both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, as all game progress, Gamerscore, and Achievements are saved on and accessible through Xbox Live.
