Gears of War 4 will be released on Xbox One on October 11, Microsoft and developer The Coalition announced today.
The Xbox-exclusive title previously had a release window of “fall 2016.” This will be the first entry in the Gears franchise since it was moved from Epic Games to Microsoft Studios and also the first developed by The Coalition, which was previously known as Black Tusk Studios. Gears of War 4 will feature a whole new cast of characters, with players filling the enormous boots of JD Fenix, son of former Gears protagonist Marcus Fenix.
While October is still a long way off for Xbox players who want to get their hands on one of the console’s biggest exclusives to date, they will be able to try out the game later this month with the release of a multiplayer beta. The Gears of War 4 beta will be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers starting April 25, but will also be available in “early access” starting April 18 for anyone who has previously played the Windows PC or Xbox One version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. The beta will run until May 1.
