Fortnite On PS4 Is Finally Getting Cross-Play Functionality

Sony is finally taking steps to rectify the biggest issue with the PS4 version of the popular online shooter Fortnite.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, John Kodera, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Sony seems to mirror these thoughts, announced that after careful consideration, an open beta allowing cross platform gameplay between PlayStation 4 and all other versions of Fortnite will begin starting today:

“Today, the communities around some games have evolved to the point where cross-platform experiences add significant value to players. In recognition of this, we have completed a thorough analysis of the business mechanics required to ensure that the PlayStation experience for our users remains intact today, and in the future, as we look to open up the platform.”

While Sony is aware of their slow arrival to the great changes which cross-platform gaming is providing, they also want to ensure that the user experience on the Playstation doesn’t suffer. That’s why they’ve produced this beta rather than a full release out of the door.

Regardless of the history and the details of the future plans, anyone that these changes are affecting are excited to get the ability to play with a whole new audience of players. This new audience no longer needs to feel left out of arguably the most popular video game today.
