ESPN is Looking to Hire an eSports Editor

While it still has some hurdles to overcome before it’s considered in the same conversation as more traditional sports, the fact that ESPN is hiring a full-time eSports editor is an indication that video games are becoming serious business as a spectator sport.

The listing on ESPN’s website asks for applicants who have, among other qualifications, sufficient knowledge about popular eSport games such as League of Legends, Call of Duty, Starcraft 2, DotA 2, Hearthstone, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. ESPN has recently been branching into eSports coverage and this job posting suggests that the media giant is starting to take the burgeoning market very seriously. If their venture takes off, it will likely be only a matter of time before most major media outlets start covering eSports with the same care and attention that they give football, baseball, or hockey.
