While the Upper Bracket matches on Day Two were fairly standard, with EHOME and Evil Geniuses basically running over their opponents, the Lower Bracket saw two pretty big surprises. While Digital Chaos did very well in the Group Stage, it was still incredibly shocking to watch them dominate a more experienced LGD Gaming, sweeping their series with a pair of incredible well-played games. Meanwhile, in what is perhaps the biggest upset of the tournament thus far, Team OG, which won two of the three Major events over the previous year and were considered heavy favorites to win TI6, were absolutely skunked by underdog SEA squad, TNC Gaming, washing out of The International in the bottom half of the standings.
Upper Bracket (Best of 3)
EHOME d. Alliance (2-0)
Evil Geniuses d. Newbee (2-0)
Lower Bracket (Best of 3)
TNC Gaming d. Team OG (2-0)
Digital Chaos d. LGD Gaming (2-0)
Team OG and LGD Gaming finish in 8th-12th place and walk away with just over $300,000. With these results, 3 of the six teams that were directly invited to TI6 have already been eliminated (LGD, OG, and Natus Vincere), and two more (Newbee, Team Liquid) will face elimination from the Lower Bracket in Day Three.
On the way for Day Three, the Upper Bracket will see MVP Phoenix take on Wings Gaming and Evil Geniuses face EHOME, with the winners assured of at worst a Top 3 finish. Meanwhile, the second round of the Lower Bracket will finish up with Alliance vs Fnatic and Newbee vs Team Liquid, with the losers eliminated from The International.
