While plenty of heavy hitters still remain, a ragtag group of misfits created out of the cast-offs of other, bigger teams has become the story of TI6, as Digital Chaos, the North American-based team full of European players (which has led to any number of arguments), has followed up on a surprisingly strong Group Stage by tearing through the Lower Bracket to guarantee themselves at worst a Top 4 finish. Needing to win two matches on Day Four to continue in the tournament, Digital Chaos first ended the Cinderella run of SEA underdogs TNC Gaming, then brutalized Chinese powerhouse EHOME to close out the day, securing a Final Four spot.
Meanwhile, in the other match played on Day Four, Team Liquid, the last (official) European team remaining, was shockingly felled by Fnatic. This also sends yet another directly invited team home, leaving only MVP Phoenix, which could meet the same fate at the hands of Fnatic tomorrow.
Lower Bracket (Best of 3)
Digital Chaos d. TNC Gaming (2-1)
Fnatic d. Team Liquid (2-0)
Digital Chaos d. EHOME (2-0)
TNC Gaming and Team Liquid will finish TI6 in 7th-8th place, securing just over $510,000 each. Meanwhile, EHOME will end up in 5th-6th along with whomever loses between MVP Phoenix and Fnatic on Day Five, and takes home roughly $918,000.
On Day Five, as mentioned, MVP Phoenix will face Fnatic, with the winner taking on Digital Chaos for a chance to move up to at least a Top 3 finish. And in the Upper Bracket, the first entrant in the Grand Finals will be determined, as Evil Geniuses takes on Wings Gaming!
