With two days of Group Stage matches in the book, the field has started to take shape, with the contenders separating themselves from the pack, and some big surprises along the way. In Group A, defending TI5 Champions Evil Geniuses have apparently shaken off a year’s worth of controversy after several roster shuffles, and are dominating the group at 8-2, only splitting series with the second and third place members of the group, Team OG and Wings Gaming. Meanwhile, Natus Vincere, who received one of only 6 direct invites to the tournament, continued to struggle, finishing the day at 4-6 alongside Chinese team LGD Gaming, which was also expected to perform far better. At this point, both teams are expected to start the Main Event in the Lower Bracket, making their road to any potential TI6 victory far more difficult.

Over in Group B, Chinese wild card team EHOME is just destroying every other team in their path, finishing 9-1 for the day and securing their spot in the Upper Bracket, only dropping a single map against Team Liquid, a heavily favored team that has been drastically under-performing thus far in the Group Stages, but could still secure a top spot due to the poor showings by other teams. Meanwhile, North American-based squad Digital Chaos, which entered the tournament with a string of bottom-tier finishes at several tournaments and were not considered a serious contender, absolutely blew away the competition to end up at 8-2, including sweeps of heavy favorites Newbee and Team Secret. Speaking of Secret, the second day was a lot less kind to the European-based “all-star” team, which did not win a single game all day, dropping to 3-7 and virtually assuring themselves of a Lower Bracket position.

Here’s the updated standings headed into the final day of Group Stage, with all teams having two games left to play today:
