We’ve known for awhile now that Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen will be playing a villain in Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie, but up until this point, all that’s been revealed is that he’ll have some freaky makeup. Thanks to an odd source though, we now know the identity of Mikkelsen’s villain.
Marvel released a comics “prelude” to the movie yesterday, which reveals that Mikkelsen’s character is Kaecilus. Don’t know who Kaciilus is? That’s okay because even Doctor Strange fans may be a bit thrown off by this revelation, as Kaecilius is little more than a henchman for the much more prominent Strange villain Baron Mordo in the comics. It looks like Marvel has promoted Kaecilus to full villain status for the movie, although they’re probably not going to be adapting his traditional purple unitard and gold hood.
It will be interesting to see how Baron Mordo (played by Chiwetel Ejofor) handles one of his lackeys rising up and trying to actually be someone and based on Mikkelsen’s flawless track record when it comes to playing villains, we could be in for a Marvel movie that actually has strong, memorable villains, which is not something that can be said often enough.
Doctor Strange hits theaters this November.
