Bungie and Activision are finally through teasing us: Destiny 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2014’s first-person shooter/RPG hybrid, is coming out September 8 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Here’s Bungie’s official description of the game:
Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home.
While the reveal trailer contains no actual gameplay footage, it does hint at Bungie’s focus for their new game. It’s clear that story will take a front seat this time out, in stark contrast to the original game’s bare bones and poorly-explained narrative, as well as a greater focus on humor (Nathan Fillion is really earning his pay check with this one). Oh and loot. Lots and lots of loot.
Bungie has also revealed that there will be a “gameplay premiere live stream” on May 18.
