If you were wondering why Crackdown 3 wasn’t included in Microsoft’s E3 press conference today, it might be because the game’s launch window has been pushed back significantly.

Originally set for release in the third quarter of 2016, Crackdown 3 developer Reagent Games has announced that the game will now release sometime in 2017.

“It has become clear that our original timeline of delivering multiplayer to fans this summer, while maintaining the size, scope and quality of the game, would be challenging,” Reagent said in a statement. “Our top priority is to give gamers an experience they have never seen before at a scale never thought possible, and sticking to our original timeline would have compromised that goal.”

We know that many are looking forward to becoming agents in Crackdown 3 and we are committed to delivering the best experience in 2017. This decision was made with our fans and their gaming experience in mind.”

Originally announced at E3 2014, Crackdown 3 has now been delayed on two separate occasions. When it does launch, it will be available as part of Microsoft’s recently announced Xbox Play Anywhere initiative. This means that it will be available on both Xbox One and Windows PC and players only need one copy of the game to play it on both platforms.
