We’re used to seeing Call of Duty games break sales records, which is why it’s hardly surprising to learn that the latest entry in the series, Black Ops III, is now the biggest entertainment launch of the year, earning $550 million in its first three days alone
This figure beats out all other 2015 video game launches, as well as anything else in the entertainment industry. Even Jurassic World‘s incredible box office opening pales in comparison. The game also set a record on PlayStation 4, becoming the best-selling digital game on the platform in terms of first day availability, no doubt spurned by Sony’s exclusivity deals with Activision Blizzard, which publishes the series.
Black Ops III‘s success reverses a slight downward trend for the franchise over the past couple years, which saw sales of 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts and 2014′ s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare take a dip from previous entries in the series. It seems that despite franchise fatigue setting in for many at this point, Call of Duty is showing no signs for slowing down anytime soon.
