Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead
New details have emerged regarding the plot of Rocksteady’s recently revealed Batman: Arkham VR, which is being developed for the PlayStation VR headset. The game will allow players to become the Dark Knight like never before and judging by some newly uncovered plot details, it looks like we’ll also get to feel Batman’s emotional pain like never before too.
ComicBook.com is reporting that the game starts off with the death of a beloved member of the Bat family. After an introductory sequence set in Wayne Manor and the Batcave, Batman receives a call from Alfred, who tells him that Nightwing is dead. Batman’s young ally is found dead in a dark alley and by using Batman’s detective skills and gadgets (which will be a key component of the game’s design), it’s discovered that Nightwing’s killer beat him to death with his bare hands before snapping his neck.
Although this will surely come as a shock to Bat fans everywhere, there is reason to hope that Dick Grayson isn’t really dead. Rocksteady has not revealed where Batman: Arkham VR takes place in the series timeline, so it’s possible that the game takes place before the events of Arkham Knight, where Nightwing is seen alive and well. Fans will also recall that Arkham Knight did something similar when Barbara Gordon was killed, only for it to be revealed later that Batman hallucinated the entire incident.
Then again, Rocksteady hasn’t really given Nightwing his due in the past (how do we still not have a solo game or expansion dedicated to him?) so it wouldn’t be all that surprising if they did decide to kill him off, Death in the Family style. Regardless, this definitely has us even more intrigued by Batman: Arkham VR and we can’t wait to get our hands on the game when it is released in October.
