Activision Blizzard Buys eSports Organization

It appears that popular game publisher Activision Blizzard was busy over the holidays, as it has been confirmed that the company has purchased eSports organization Major League Gaming for an estimated $46 million. Activision Blizzard, which has become more active on the rising eSports front with the recently released Heroes of the Storm MOBA, the upcoming Overwatch team FPS, and, of course, the long-running Call of Duty franchise, had apparently been looking for a way to increase their presence in the eSports field, and the acquisition of MLG, which has hosted many large competitive gaming events over its history, most recently the MLG World Finals in New Orleans (their 100th pro graming event over MLG’s existence), will allow them to do just that.

There has been no official word on how this will affect any future MLG events at this time.
