Marvel Studios Boss Responds To Blade Movie/TV Show Rumors

During New York City Comic-Con this weekend, a quote given by Kate Beckinsale while promoting her new movie, Underworld: Blood Wars, gave birth to a rumor that Marvel Studios was working on a new Blade movie or TV show. Beckinsale was asked if there had ever been discussion of doing a Blade/Underworld crossover and she replied:

“No. We had that idea. No … They’re busy. They’re doing something with Blade.”

Taken a certain way, Beckinsale’s remark certainly seems to suggest that Marvel is actively working on a new Blade project. It also didn’t help that Wesley Snipes recently made comments teasing that he wanted to play the character again. Unfortunately for Blade fans, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was quick to deny the movie/TV show rumors.

Following a 15 minute sneak peek of Doctor Strange Monday night, Feige told The Playlist that while the studio hopes to do something with Blade eventually, there is currently nothing in development.

“They did ask a long time ago and I think our answer was, ‘No, we’ll do something with ‘Blade’ at some point.’ That’s still the answer. We still think he’s a great character. He’s a really fun character. We think this movie going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on ‘AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ that rather than team up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see.  There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.”

Hopefully, we’ll get a Blade Netflix show down the line, as he’s definitely a character who would work well in an episodic format. It’s hard to see Snipes actually returning though, so let casting speculation begin!
